Is Foam Tape Conductive?
I need to put some between a heatsink and chip on my mobo - will the tape conduct electricity? (If the heatsink is tilted slightly, it will short out the small circuits near the main chip, so I need some tape to protect against that)...
Let me clarify my problem: I already have a heatsink and it is affixed with thermal compound - I just don't want the heatsink to tip over slightly and short out the tiny little chips next the the main NB chip (the heatsink wouldn't be extremely firm, because of the way it's attached). I'm not saying I want to use 'foam tape' for a conductive application. So basically, I need some NON-conductive foam tape to protect the smaller chips AROUND the main NB chip so that they won't short out. I hope this clarification helps - and if you (jamesmicoff) have a different answer, please email me.
Well ah yeah it conducts, ever get a shock off of anything made of plastic? What goes between the heatsink and the chip is nothing but heatsink compound and nothing else. And the heatsink must be absolutely flush with the chip. Otherwise you might as well remove the heatsink. Rethink the problem.
