should I spray it with clear coat or not?
I spray painted my plastic computer case, the color is metallic silver from Rust-Oleum for indoor use, on the back of the can it says "Clear coat not necessary". even though it says this, can I still spray it with clear coat or should I not?

Everyone says go ahead... but there could be problems with putting a clear coat over a metallic paint.
I agree with everyone's suggestion that more protection will be good, but TEST FIRST.
Sometimes the solvents in the clear will resolve the metallic base coat and turn a shimmery finish to a muddy color that no longer looks metallic.
I know this from painting carvings, spray paint over primed wood. I use incompatible clear coat over metallic paint -- like a brush-able polyurethane to avoid this problem.
I am sure someone is going to say I am full of it, and maybe I've just used bad paint (honestly, I've used a lot of Krylon and Rustoleum...) but anyone who suggests you start spraying without testing first is leading you astray. Find something you can test your metallic paint on now, get a good coat of whatever you used on the computer case onto something else... then (when it's all dry) test your clear before putting it on your computer case. Let it dry, see how it looks.
It won't be a waste of time if all it does is give you peace of mind. It will be totally worth it if you avoid disaster.
