How to turn off computer case's front panel LED's?
The case is just a standard mid-tower ATX case, but it has a power switch that apparently has a really bright blue LED behind the button. It's blindingly bright from just about every angle except when I'm sitting at the computer. I don't want the LED on anymore, but I don't know exactly how to go about it.
I know the wires are connected to the motherboard... but my motherboard has it weird. The motherboard is a Asus P5N-E SLI mobo that has some kind of Asus-Q connector or something that connects the IDE-LED's, speakers, and something else into one header plug on the motherboard. Somehow they have the IDE power plug and hard disk activity on the same plug itself. I just want the power plug LED off, but not the hard disk activity light. I don't know what I'm doing. Any suggestions?
According to the online manual for this motherboard, the HDD LED pair are the Red and White on the outboard side (closest to the side of the case), and the PLED (Power LED) are the Green and White pair on the inboard side. These color codings are pretty much industry standard. I would feel comfortable cutting the green wire only, but I WOULD cut it back far enough that you could splice it if you ever wanted to. And, just for grins, I would tape the ends.
