Will my HD TIVO work if I don't have a cable card from my provider?
I am so confused about TIVO. I've been on the phone all day with TIVO and my cable provider. I ordered TIVO this morning and now they are saying that I need a cable card, but my provider says i can't get one until the end of december. I know that with the TIVO HD it acts as a cable box and you don't need the providers box anymore. But can I hook up my cable box to my TIVO HD and get my cable channels?
Yes it will work. You can access all analog channels if you hook it up to cable outlet directly and don't have cable cards. Of course those are only SD shows, not HD. You can get HD without cable cards by OTA (over the air) HD which requires an HD OTA antenna. I would call TiVo and tell them about your Cable company because there is a FCC mandate for all Cable companies to provide CableCards. They can probably help you get some.
