Underground Cable box Cover?
The local cable company installed a fiberoptic cable system to the apartment. They dug a 3-4 foot deep hole in the ground and the wires/cables were laid into it. OK.,got the picture? Here's the question; I noticed that snow does not accumulate for long on the ground cover plate that protects it.There's snow around the plate but not on it. Where's the heat coming from? Or is it some other kind of "gasp"radiation?
Probably the ground exposed by the box is warmer than the surface. This would cause the snow to melt faster. Also it is possible that some form for heat trace (heater wire) was laid in the box since fibers do have a min temperature for optimium operation. Not sure though if the heat trace is common practice for fiber?? Its not radiation as in harmful radiation so you can relax.
