Bryant furnace (model 589 - combo gas heat/electric cool) not warming in morning after setback?
My furnace malfunctioned 3 days ago with only cool air blowing in AM. Tech came yesterday and replaced circuit board. Everything working fine until this AM. Overnight, I have T-stat setback 3 deg to 65. This AM when t-stat went on, unit blows cool air, but no heat. Fan continues to blow cool air continuously. I turn off & on breaker and unit's able to fire back up, heating. I leave the temp at 68 and have no problem as unit goes on/off during day. Problem seems to occur overnight when setback temp is used and in AM, it won't heat up again, but fan continues to blow cool air until I reset breaker. Seems like something isn't resetting in AM after setback has been on and furnace struggles to reach the target temp. Any ideas on what's causing this problem? Seen other posts regarding sensor prob? Why does unit work if I reset breaker? Any advice is apprec.
Low air flow. The unit is tripping out on the high limit safety. I know it's obvious, but is your filter clogged? Or are there too many vents closed off? Contrary to popular belief, closing vents really doesn't save you any money. The other thing could be a clogged air conditioner coil obstructing the furnace air flow.
The reason this is not a problem until coming off of setback is that the unit has to run longer to warm up the space and if the limit trips 3 times, the unit will not reset itself automatically. As a safeguard Carrier (makers of Bryant) has programmed the control to keep the fan on in case there is a problem with the burners overheating and to let you know something is wrong.
I hate to say it, but you probably did not need a new board. If the tech did not hang around long enough to see the unit trip on high limit, he probably made an assumption about the board. This was a common problem on York and Coleman (same thing) furnaces made in the late 80s and early 90s that required a new style of board to be installed.
To check air flow, let the unit run for about 10-15 minutes with a meat thermometer stuck in a supply vent close to the furnace. It should not be more than 55 degrees warmer than the average temp in the house. If it is, you lack air flow.
