my friend said i have room for a blower to connect to my 08' chevy silverado engine, alternate names?
i checked online with a couple variations on engine blower but all i got was blowers (heater/cooler fans) for inside the truck and radiator fans, but what my friend was talking about was a blower that hooks into the engine to cool the engine...suggestions would be helpful
The "blower" you refer to is not for cooling the engine.
Usually the slang term "blower" refers to a supercharger which mounts above the intake manifold and pressurizes (compresses) the incoming cylinder air charge (makes it denser=more air in the same space) so you can inject more fuel to that space simultaneously creating more power. It works just like a turbocharger only instead of the compressor being driven by an exhaust gas turbine, it's driven directly by a belt off of the crankshaft.
Basically putting a bigger bomb in the same sized space.
Trouble with that is, you can't just bolt on a blower and expect it to work. Computer controlled engines take information from various sensors around the engine-two of them being the MAP (Barometric air pressure) and the intake air temp sensor. These sensors constantly tell the ECM how to control fuel/air mixture for optimum combustion. Throw in too much air without a proportional increase in fuel and you've got an engine that runs like crap.
It's a goodly big project involving air intake mods, fuel system mods, ECM reprogramming and extra sensors.
Unless you're planning on drag racing your truck-it really isn't worth the time and money and downtime.
