cant connect with wireless internet extender card. HELP?

Ok, i live in a duplex and my family next door and they have comcast internet. they have a wireless router and i have the extender card (belkin wireless G range extender) for my computer. i was able to get online a few times but most of the time i couldnt and now i cant at all. when you search for the closest signal, it shows a few people, but they are secure , except for the family members that i am using. BUT the family members signal has one bar instead of five. the signal is not strong enough for me to use the internet.
my thought was that other people were using my family's connection and it couldnt work with so many people using it. BUT now im getting messages saying that windows has not been configured for the wireless network you are trying to connect to. ive also been asked about an isp address and to install active x controls (which im not able to get online to do). i have been online a handful of times and now i cant. can anyone tell me what to do??? thanks a million!!!!!

Radio Waves are very tricky, and very difficult to predict. Here are a few things to try:

1) Try moving one or both points. Sometimes a few inches will make a big difference.

2) Try a better antenna on both ends. Antennas are rated in dB. The higher the gain in dB, the better the antenna.

3) Does anyone nearby have a 2.4gHz phone? It may interfere with Wi-Fi.

4) Try different hardware. Some brands, like Parkervision and Senao have long range devices.
