Final Gaming Computer Proposal?
Hey
I have just finished putting together my final list of components. All together, its a bit pricey, but thats not an issue right now.
Due to my lack of hardware understanding, I am very curious if all of this will be compatible, and also, is there anything else i have missed out on ( apart from monitor, keyboard, etc. )
CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (2.83GHz)
VIDEO CARD - ASUS GeForce GTX280 - 1GB DDR3, 512-bit, 2x DVI, HDTV, HDCP - PCI-Ex16 v2.0
MOTHERBOARD - ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS Motherboard
CASE - CoolerMaster HAF RC-932 Tower Case
CD DRIVE - ASUS DRW-20B1LT DVD Burner - SATA
HARD DRIVE - Samsung 500GB 7200rpm Serial ATA-II-300 HDD w. 16MB Cache (HD501LJ) (TWO OF THESE)
RAM - Corsair 4096MB (2 x 2048MB) PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 RAM
POWER SUPPLY - PC Power & Cooling 750W Silencer 750 Quad
CPU COOLER - US Triton 78 CPU Cooler
So yeah, there it is, is there anything else you would recomend, and would you think it is all compatible?
Thanks
Ryan.
Go with an i7 if price is no issue, the 920 is only $299 shipped from newegg. Your bigger expense will come from the x58 motherboard that starts out at $220 for an MSI board, but you cannot SLI on that board. If you have hopes of SLI when the price of 280's come down, then you will have to fork out $270-$400 for a SLI compatible board. DDR3 has came down, but for the i7 build you will buy those kits in 3 stick kits, which gives you true tri channel ram... I am planning on building a base system with the i7 with the 920, the MSI board and 3-2gig ram kit that will cost $700 shipped. The new thing about the i7 is that it is a quad core like the extreme you are getting, but it has a throttle that decides if you are only running 2 cores in a program or group of programs, it will throttle the other two cores down, which cools the processors die and then can throttle up the two cores which are doing the work... There are a many reviews of people that had q9650's that brag on the new i7 being so much faster than their more expensive extreme... If you choose to SLI you will run into the $800 ramge for a good SLI setup but it will still be well worth it...
