Buy a high end gaming laptop or get a semi-capable gaming laptop and upgrade or overhaul my current desktop.?
Going to college here soon and I need a laptop. Parents want to help me buy a laptop from Bestbuy for graduation. Should I get an extremely high end gaming laptop ($2500 to $3000) or should I just get a laptop that can comfortably play EVE Online and upgrade/overhaul my current gaming desktop. I'm looking at the newest Sager/Clevo 18 something inch GTX260m SLI with an i7 quad core. They said get the best laptop at Bestbuy, but the only ok-ish laptop at the one down here is an Alienware M17x that is pared down (dual core, single GPU, 4gb ram, crappy resolution etc). How long do gaming laptops last both performance wise and lifetime wise due to heat. The particular Clevo/Sager I'm looking at is highly upgradeable I believe. I'm not worried about it weighing so much, I just don't want it to run out of juice or melt the table it's sitting on ... because after all it is a gaming monster.
You can get a fairly high end gaming laptop on Newegg for $1000+. There are several Core i7 mobiles that have good video cards such as the Radeon 5730, 260m GTX, or the GTX 240. Hell, you can get one with 8 GB of RAM, Core i7 mobile, and a Radeon 5870 mobile video card for $1600-1700 or less with this ASUS
