Gaming PC upgrade question?
Ok, so my current setup is:
Asrock dual SATA mobo
1gb ddr-400 kingston
athlon 64 3200+ stock @ 2.0ghz
geforce 8800 gts 320mb g80
I plan on upgrading my motherboard, cpu and ram so that my rig will look like:
abit ip35-e mobo
2gb dual channel ddr2-800 team elite
Intel e8400 3.0ghz
geforce 8800 gts 320mb
I already got the motherboard and memory, just waiting for the e8400 to arrive. Will that be a good enough upgrade to fix the gpu bottleneck my 8800 is having with my current setup? I usually game at my monitor's native res (1680x1050) and I know that going up in resolution puts more strain to the videocard. Will the new cpu be able to help in performance even at high res where majority relies on the gpu? Also, does dual channel memory make a difference?
depends on what game
some games for some reason don't use the cpu that much (crysis, it barely uses 50% of my Pentium D)
Other games use the cpu more (COD4 uses 100% of my pentium every time)
Since I know I have a low end cpu, but I can still play games, I know the biggest factor is the graphics card for games.
But the new cpu will be a big improvement over your current cpu.
